I have both ADHD and dyspraxia. I was l eventually diagnosed privately after 5 years being on NHS waiting lists because things in my life hit crisis point.
I was excluded permanently from 2 schools and went to a pupil referral unit. I started to go down the wrong path, drug dealing, involved in crime and getting in trouble consistently with police, ending up in court.
I also struggled mentally with depression and anxiety which led me to a suicidal attempt when I was only 16 of which I was stopped by a homeless person seconds before my fate was decided.
My neurodivergence was seen as a disability and not an ability and I was told many times I would end up in prison and never amount to anything. My strengths were completely overlooked.
Fast forward to now, I have proved all those people wrong and I have managed to overcome the adversity and change my life around.
I have worked with many corporates such as Metro Bank and Harvey Nichols, have spoken for the United Nations, have featured in media internationally including on the BBC, Channel 5 and France 2 of France Televisions and I also was a finalist for the National Diversity Awards 2023
I have many exciting collaborations planned for 2024
Shifting the narrative:
Neurodiversity is very much a competitive advantage. Thinking outside the box, creative, entrepreneurial just a few of the many strengths neurodivergent people possess.
33% + of business owners/ CEOs are neurodivergent
We are 1 in 5 (20%) of the population. I genuinely believe there’s an evolutionary reason for this. Just like we have different races and genders, we need those different and unique minds in society.
If I could leave you with one point it’s that neurodiversity only becomes a disability if society, systems and people make it one… So let’s not make it one.
